MBC108 Energy Storage Systems

Course Overview

Designed for engineers, designers, consultants, students, and anyone passionate about the energy transition, this course delivers essential knowledge and practical skills to understand, evaluate, and apply modern energy storage solutions across residential and commercial contexts. 

 

What you will learn: 


Understand how batteries and storage systems work, including AC- and DC-coupled configurations, storage control strategies, and integration with solar PV systems.


Battery Technologies: Gain detailed insight into lithium-ion, lead-acid, and vanadium redox flow batteries, including performance characteristics, applications, and limitations.


System Design Skills: Learn how to design and size energy storage systems using professional tools like PV*Sol and PVsyst, with guidance on load modelling, autonomy, and inverter configuration.


DNO Grid Connection Applications  Learn how to correctly apply for a grid connection of an energy storage system in the UK. 


Microgrids and Control Modes: Understand the principles of microgrid design, battery control strategies, and how to achieve resilience and energy independence through smart integration.
